What is Active
Release Technique?
ART® (Active Release Techniques, also known as Adhesion Release Method or ARM) is a state-of-the-art, highly successful soft-tissue assessment and therapy that is quickly gaining popularity for the successful treatment of myofascial (muscle & fascia), tendon, ligament, and nerve problems.
The goal of ARM is to restore optimal texture, motion, and function of the body's soft tissue and release any entrapped nerves or blood vessels. It can be used to relieve pain in a wide variety of patients — from low back pain to neck pain to hip pain to foot pain and everywhere in between.
Alisha begins by positioning the affected muscle, tendon, or nerve and applies precise, targeted tension with her hands as you actively move through a stretch. As the tissue lengthens, she evaluates its texture and quality — identifying areas of healthy tissue versus scar tissue that require further work. When adhesions are found, the tension and direction are adjusted in real time to address the problem directly.
This means every ART® session is both an assessment and a treatment — allowing Alisha to continuously monitor tissue health and track your progress from visit to visit.
Alisha is certified and currently provides Active Release Therapy in Coldbrook, Nova Scotia and serves all of Nova Scotia — bringing this highly effective treatment to clients across the province.
- Sports injuries
- Chronic back pain
- Hip and deep core pain
- Knee pain & sciatica
- And many more common conditions
Please note: Unlike therapeutic massage or acupuncture, ART/ARM is not a relaxing appointment. Working with entrapped nerves will create some discomfort and pain for a short period of time.
